N wants to be an astronaut. She keeps asking me when we REALLY can go on a rocket ship and go to the moon. Not just pretend (we pretend this a lot).
I told her she has to learn to read EVERY WORD and then she can go to school to become an astronaut. It did work to make her more excited about learning to read.

Do you remember when I had to tell Hazel that people can't fly?
"Mummy! I fly?"
"I'm sorry Hazel, people just can't."
"Pleeease Mummy I fly?"
She was darkly disappointed in me for some days after she came to believe in my inability to fix the problem.
