Space is big

I use Google a lot and I have personalised google home with the Nasa Image of the Day and Astonomy Picture of the Day pictures on it. Sometimes they have images that just blow me away, like these to from today (click on them for more info):

Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Space is big.

Now there's a heavy thought. It's also full of our space junk.

Anyway, nice blog.

So big that if you turned our entire planet into space junk and put a piece orbiting around each star in our galaxy there would still be stars left over. And if you look at any part of the sky with the Hubble Telescope there are far more galaxies than stars. Most made up of more stars than our planet has space junk.

BIG.
